Squidoo Cracks Down on SEO and Affiliate Spam
Hot on the heels of Jason Calacanis’ call for reform, Seth Godin’s Squidoo has announced a plan to start tackling the spam problem which has infected the platform for as long as its been operational…
Squidoo is growing by leaps and bounds, and with success also comes trouble. Spamming is a hot topic right now, and I just wanted to post a quick note to let everyone know what we’re doing to cope with the problem.
Spamming is a hot topic right now? Spam has been a hot topic for a long while, and any time a platform is used for obvious gaming, users will become alienated.
Perhaps Jason said it best…
When I had SEOs on the last CalacanisCast they raved about Squidoo and it’s ability to game the system, and if SEOs love your platform you have a HUGE problem.
When it comes to content creation platforms, there should be a church state relationship with advertising. I know that’s heretical to say for someone involved in affiliate marketing and paid search, but that’s how I’ve always felt and will continue to do so.
So, I’m glad to see Squidoo start the long attempt to clean up its service.
