NOFOLLOW / DOFOLLOW Arguments Annoy Me

August 13, 2007 by Evan

sealed.jpgI use a dofollow plugin on this blog because I don’t mind sharing link love with people who are taking the time to comment here and providing darn good content in doing so.

However, I’ve heard time and again that I shouldn’t use Tumblr because it uses nofollow and I shouldn’t use this service or that service because it doesn’t pass on Google juice.

Seriously… get over it.

There’s more to life and marketing than getting kickbacks for your amazing and mind bending 140 character content. Use these services (such as Twitter) for what they are - presence platforms or micro-blogs - and stop trying to game them into your short sighted submission.

Make good content and people will find you. Obsess over nofollow’s and dofollow’s and you’ll loose your readership (other than the SEO’ers who are too busy optimizing to care about your content).

/rant.

Twitter is just the latest site to have drank the nofollow kool-aid. Sebastian covers it, with a bit of a surprise twist at the end. With guest appearances (in discussion at least) by Graywolf, Matt Cutts, and Harith.
