ExpoTV: PayPerPost of Video?

Video is quickly gathering steam for those looking to market their own products. But what about tapping into existing customers, users or street evangelists?

Enter ExpoTV

ExpoTV features thousands of Videopinions reviews - short, unbiased, consumer-generated videos of products and services. Would you like to know more about the hot new Toyota FJ Cruiser 4×4? What about one of the snazzy Dell laptops? Learn everything you need to know about these products and hundreds more from regular people, using them every day in their own homes. What can they tell you that owner manuals and advertising never will? Where do they encounter problems? What are the best and worst features of a product?

ExpoTV is an interesting new service that allows for individuals to post reviews of their own experiences with products and services for a bounty.

However, it’s not quite as simple as the PayPerPost model (which I personally detest):

With Pay-Per-Play, you earn 1 each time your fans watch any of your videos at ExpoTV.com. It’s so easy. You get paid every month based on how many times all of your video reviews are viewed on our site, plus you can track your earnings anytime on your My Profile page.

One of the major differences between ExpoTV and PayPerPost is the barrier to entry explained here. Simply put, it’s harder to put together a quality video that is going to get viewers than it is to write a post with no performance metric required (as in PayPerPost). The addition of the performance metric makes this an interesting platform for users by lending a touch of integrity.

The products reviewed on ExpoTV don’t have to cost thousands of dollars for you to learn something new and useful. We love how our members covered the new Glade Light Show and the Lancome Eye Makeup Remover. Our consumer reporters earn up to $10.00 for each approved review they submit. That’s enough to cover their time and effort but not enough to give you anything other than the straight scoop. The real deal.

It will be fun to see if this model beats out the PayPerPost model. In my mind, I think this is a much more compelling channel for both content producers and content consumers.
