Three interesting developments in the world of affiliate marketing today…
In case you haven’t heard yet, MyBlogLog banned Shoemoney. I really thought this was a joke headline, but it’s true. Read the comments for select quotes from the MBL team that shows their motivations and thought process (or lack thereof) in banning Jeremy. I’d recommend they look at this slide show from Tara Hunt and contemplate how to build/nurture a community rather than outright banning one of the hubs of an entire niche. Poor decision. Andy Beal is already calling for a boycott. This is well on its way to making it to the front page of Digg as well… so expect some MBL/Yahoo backlash from that. As I’ve said before, BUMPzee is everything that MyBlogLog could have been. I highly recommend that service if you are in affiliate marketing and looking for a MBL alternative.
Shawn Collins and Lisa Picarelli host the AffiliateThing show and are moving from BlogTalkRadio to WebMasterRadio (Wednesday’s at noon EST). Nice move. The BlogTalkRadio platform is a great idea, but I don’t see it attracting much in the way of audience or exposure (or development) for quality programs such as AffiliateThing. Plus, the platform has been experiencing downtimes, which is frustrating when you have guests and a show lined up for a specific bloc of time. Hopefully Shawn and Lisa’s move will allow them to further develop and improve the show (which they are doing on a weekly basis already).
Interesting thread at ABestWeb covering Gaiam’s affiliate program, WebVideoZone and the use of video in mainstream affiliate programs. Recommended reading. Thanks to Trust for the tip on that one.
